AYM - A Fan's Prespective
Life has taken a 90 degree turn for me in the past six months. All my weekends are now invariably filled with a movie by default, sometimes two movies back to back. So when AYM was listed for pre booking, I was sceptical about watching - should we go for AYM or Rock On 2? I was even tempted to go for Rock On 2, for I was inspired by Farhan Akthar in Rock On. But, Rasaali and GVM took over my air of doubt and hence it was AYM.
To watch a new movie directed by accomplished directors is always a gamble. You never know what to expect. You are not sure whether it will be a trendsetter or a stereotypical rhythm in director's own cult. I simply had my fingers crossed for I can't take it if is a half baked cookie from GVM.
Now, to the movie - if one word could summarise the entire plot, it would be Unpredictable. You never know what will happen next. My popcorn companion, who will generally piss me of with his 'intutive' spoilers didn't open his mouth at all. And that was a good sign for me. The movie keeps going forward, without even giving a second for you think as what will happen next.
Simbu is fresh and Manjima looks matured and composed. And I am glad, the movie didn't take the routine of Love at first sight and attempt-to-convince proposals. The songs are awesome with not-so-awesome choreography. Except for Showkali, the rest of the songs are out of sync with audio. ARR's BGM is disappointing. Thalli pogadhey, no doubt is a braver attempt but having the tunes for BGM - well, I guess it didn't make its mark as like VTV.
Dialogues are fresh and little philosophical too. GVM has tried his best to fill all logical gaps. But I still wonder where is the bike key in the second part? ( Pardon me, couldn't help asking it ! ) The climax has got mixed reviews. But any alteration to the directed climax, would have spoilt the balance of the film. People say Love is glorified in the first half of the film. I prefer to differ. In comparison with films like VTV and Vaaranam Aayiram, GVM has played love subtly in AYM.
The question of ' What happens next?' holds the audience to their seats. People complain about the narration part in the last 30 mins - but any on screen elaboration would have made this film Vaaranam Aayiram - Part 2. I expected a climax similar to Kaaka Kaaka, but nope! The twist there was cinematic yet it completes the movie.
So, what am I to say? Well, the movie was worth my 120 bucks for it was different and keeps you glued to your seat. I am happy that GVM didn't disappoint his fans.
P.S: I have tried my best not to give any spoilers. But spare me if I have revealed anything.
P.S: Inspired to write this post, after reading a song review from the same movie: http://bit.ly/2fw9cJp by Santhi Venkatesh.
